Our Environmental Contribution

...A Native American proverb

At LGP, we understand the value and the importance of the environment to the world community and for future generations.

As a renewable energy company, we comply with applicable environmental laws, standards and regulations to ensure that our business activities and operations do not in any way adversely impact on the environment. All our landfill sites have the necessary approval and certification from the relevant authorities, including the Department of Environmental Protection, the State Planning Commission, Minister for Lands and the local authorities relevant to each development.
We continually strive for excellence in environmental performance by firmly adhering to LGP's Environmental Policy, which guides us in achieving best practice methods. As a member of the Western Australian Sustainable Energy Association (WASEA), the Waste Management Association of Australia, and with our General Manager Retail, Dr Steve Gould, sitting on the Western Australian Carbon Committee, we encourage and support sustainable energy and waste management.

Our main environmental objective, is to actively participate and make a positive contribution towards initiatives which aim to raise environmental awareness and which protect and conserve local wildlife and ecosystems, within local and international communities.

National Tree Day

National Tree DayNational Tree Day is Australia’s biggest community tree-planting event. Since 1996, more than 1.5 million volunteers have planted over 11.5 million native trees and shrubs. Their primary aim is to raise awareness about the importance of native species.

In August 2010, LGP participated in its first National Tree Day. Planting 1200 tubestock and weed mats, consisting of local native species, with the City of Belmont and other members of the local community, National Tree Day was a fun and educational event for LGP to participate in.

National Tree Day 2011 took place at LGP's Tamala Park Landfill site, where over 600 native species were planted in the area with the Mindarie Regional Council and Earthcare Volunteers. The planting program was designed to restore vegetation and connect two Tuart groves. Some significant species planted on the day included Tuarts and Dryandra Sessils; which provide nesting sites and are feeding plants for the endangered Carnaby Cockatoo's and Acacia Saligna, which is an Indigenous bush food for the area.

Clean Up Australia Day

The Clean Up Australia program was founded in 1989. Since then, every year, hundreds of thousands of Australians clean up their local environment by collecting and removing rubbish on Clean Up Australia Day.

In early 2010, LGP participated in its first Clean Up Australia Day. It was a unique opportunity for LGP to work as a team and make a difference in our local community, and we look forward to participating in this event in the future.

Clean Up Australia Day is fun, easy and anyone can get involved. Please visit www.cleanup.org.au for further information.

Dogs Refuge Home

Dogs Refuge Logo
The Dogs' Refuge Home is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the rescue, care and re-homing of dogs. Established in 1935, it is one of the oldest animal welfare agencies in Australia.

Based at 30 Lemnos Street, Shenton Park, their kennels are capable of housing up to 150 dogs. They have a no-kill policy, which ensures that no dog will be euthanised on economic grounds. Every year they take in many hundreds of dogs that have been abused, neglected or simply no longer wanted.

As a totally self-funded organisation that receives no government support whatsoever they are unable to survive without donations and we think they deserve as much support as we can give them. We are proud to make regular donations to this worthwhile cause and urge you to do the same – their website link is www.dogshome.org.au

WWF - Australia is also a recipient of charitable funds from Landfill Gas & Power Pty Ltd. To find out more about WWF, visit www.wwf.org.au
